The hosts season took a surprisingly positive turn under his Sage with five wins in a row, including last Friday’s 2-1 win away to Metz. It will be difficult to gain entry to one of the top six places in Ligue 1 this season but as is well known, the national cup also guarantees entry into international competitions next season. If we look at what surprises there have been in the Coupe de France this season, Lyon has to be considered as possible winner at the end. After all, underdogs like Rouen and Valenciennes even face each other directly in one of the four quarter-final pairings. Lyon didn't have the luck of the draw with Strasbourg, but they were given a team that is clearly on the decline in Ligue 1 despite the respectable place in the table. |
