| In the round of 16 of the DFB Cup, there is a Berlin city derby between Hertha BSC and Union Berlin. However, this cup game comes in an extremely bad time, especially for Hertha. After all, in the Bundeslgia Tayfun Korkut's team struggles to stay away from the relegation zone. This means that the Berliners are once again one of the biggest disappointments in this year Bundesliga's season. On the other hand, Union is again playing a surprisingly consistent season and after the 2-1 win against Hoffenheim in the previous matchday, is one of the first contenders for a place in Europe. Accordingly, Union Berlin can enter into the round of 16 much more confident. Hertha BSC manage to win just twice in the last ten league games. Most recently, in the 0-0 draw against Wolfsburg, they simply presented themselves as a relegation candidate and we should not be blinded by the positive 3-2 win against Borussia Dortmund just before the winter break. In fact, Hertha has never scored more than one goal in three of their last four games. The DFB Cup is not the favorite tournament of the guests too. Their best result so far dates back to the 2000/2001 season when they reached the final against FC Schalke and lost it 0-2. In the last eleven competitive games they have only suffered two defeats and recently they were able to back their European ambitions with the games against Leverkusen and Hoffenheim from which they took 4 points. |
