While FC Koln sent Europa League participant Hoffenheim home with a 3-2 defeat in their opening match, VfB Stuttgart suffered a crushing 1-5 loss against reigning double champions Bayern Munich. In the still largely meaningless first table of the new season, the Swabians thus find themselves at the bottom. Last season, only Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were more successful at home than Stuttgart, winning twelve of their seventeen home games and conceding just 16 goals, losing only two matches in front of their own fans.
